How can you manage your tax software permissions?
If you have to send a Self Assessment tax return, it’s possible that you are using software that interacts with HMRC to make that process easier for you. For example, the software can send your tax return automatically so that you don’t get hit with late penalties. You can set up certain permissions on the software so that it will perform certain tasks on your behalf.
HMRC has an online service which allows you to check the permissions you have set for your software and remove any permissions you no longer wish the software to have. Before you use the service, make sure you have your National Insurance number to hand as well as having a valid Government Gateway account – without these, you won’t be able to use the HMRC online service.
Once you have logged into the online service, you can check which permissions have been set for your account and change the ones that you wish to change. Make sure you save your changes before you exit the service.
