Former British Youth Athlete Turned Boxer Vows To Go All the Way in Second Chance at Following Sporting Dream

Promising amateur boxer, Paul ‘The Meatball’ Thompson vowed today that nothing would stand in his way of achieving his boxing ambitions, after telling of his anguish at seeing his former athletic associates competing in the London 2017 IAAF World Championships.

Thompson, 25, based in Nottingham spoke about his youth athletic career, which saw him compete as a runner for England in Europe and Thailand before he gave it all up for a career in the military and now as a self-employed plumber. He said that it was heartbreaking to see athletes he used to beat in training now competing in the IAAF Championships in London and vowed that he would not waste this second chance at reaching his sporting dreams. He expressed his desire and drive to succeed in boxing, having fallen in love with the sport during his time in the military and stated that this time he was going to let nothing stand in his way of achieving his very best.
Fighting as a Super Welterweight, under the EBF (European Boxing Federation) umbrella, Thompson will be fighting for the EBF Midlands Super Welterweight title at the Nottingham Motorpoint Arena on Friday 29th September 2017, taking on current champion Tim Sobers. He said that he was “so excited to be fighting such a recognised fighter at such an important venue”. He thanked his sponsor, DSR Tax Refunds, a specialist firm of tax preparation experts, based in Nottingham, stating that as well as the obvious financial support, it “means the world to be recognised as a talent and that belief in me is a massive boost”. DSR Tax Refunds founder, David Redfern, added that “it gives me immense personal satisfaction to be able to support a young sportsman whose drive and ambition matches my own”.
